BRIEF A new family home in rural New South Wales, conceived following the loss of the client’s original residence in the 2019–2020 Black Summer bushfires. Located within bushland, the brief was to create a bushfire-resistant home that brought the comfort, warmth and refinement of urban living into a resilient rural setting.

CONCEPT The interiors celebrate the home’s cross-laminated timber construction, leaving the CLT exposed rather than concealing it behind conventional finishes. The structure becomes an integral part of the interior palette, bringing natural warmth and texture to the spaces and complemented by a restrained selection of materials that connects the home to its bushland setting.

CHALLENGES Balancing the raw expression of the CLT structure with the level of refinement expected of a contemporary family home. Material selection and detailing were carefully considered alongside bushfire performance and sustainability requirements, creating interiors that feel warm and resolved without unnecessary layers of applied finishes.
