The PRADA SS24 Menswear collection, designed by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, was showcased in Milan and created by OMA/AMO. It stands as a magnificent embodiment of a conceptual motif of fluidity, seamlessly represented from garments to space. The synergy of the three elements—slime, steel, and garments—harmoniously intertwines to present a cohesive vision. Both the slime and models move, perpetually crafting a dynamic visual experience for the observer.
Every day, I derive enduring inspiration from the realm of fashion: the attire we don, the palettes we select, and how we express ourselves. It mirrors authentic creativity, and I particularly cherish its expression through set design, specifically within fashion shows. The inherent theatricality of these momentary events generates an electrifying and exhilarating atmosphere. It's a fleeting yet sensational experience that envelops and subsequently releases one—an experience of true uniqueness. Witnessing the culmination of numerous hours of meticulous labor and unwavering attention to detail, where countless individuals collaborate seamlessly to bring forth a singular concept and vision, is undeniably remarkable. This is why I find retail design equally extraordinary; it pays homage to the collective endeavor behind a concept.

I find Blunk's work so inspiring as it is a true reflection of a life led by instinct, leaving no creative pursuit uncharted, including pottery, sculpture, furniture, and architecture. He created all works on his Californian property using the redwood that grows in abundance, creating with no intention to sell or make himself notable. Blunk viewed his house as an ongoing creative project rather than a finished work of art, using the land and functionality as his only guidance for inspiration.
His contributions to the art world have been characterized as a holistic expression of an artistic life, and his vision was a total embrace of the handmade. Blunk's work was inspired by Japanese philosophies of nature and art's inseparability and influenced by rural utopian communities.
Mahon Pool Amenities by Lahznimmo Architects
There is a niche fascination I have had with a certain public typology for the better part of the last decade, that I really only vocalise when someone happens to be in earshot and that is Public Restroom Design. As obtuse as it sounds I think I love it because it is design that can truly be enjoyed by the masses no matter what tax bracket you dwell in.
The most fascinating aspect of Public Restroom as a design typology is what is says about the country itself. Serving as a tangible reflection on the countries socioeconomic standpoint, their access to clean water and sanitation, their access to materials, building techniques and the value in a wider sense placed on design. They are designed to include all, showcasing in many instances work of the best architects of our generation and hold a deep appreciation and respect for place. Although in some cases it is purely a design of utilitarian nature, which is an entire appreciation in itself.
Some of my favourite public restroom designs reside in Tokyo, Japan although I have decided to include an image of my old local stomping ground, Mahon Pool Amenities designed by Lahznimmo Architects in Sydney, Australia, as daily visits here for my morning swim always kept my intrigue alive in bouts where travel was not possible.
